The park offers hundreds of opportunities for activities like hiking trails and dirt roads, mountain biking, exploring the back roads, horseback riding and other adventures that Texas can offer. There is a river called the Rio Grande that lines the park for about 118 miles and offer several water activities. You can go rafting, kayaking trips and canoeing that would take you miles of canyons up to 1,500 feet deep.

The park is practically covered with the Chihuahuan Desert, and at the middle of it is the Chisos Mountains that looks like an island in the middle of the desert. The highest point in the park is called Emory Peak which rises up to 7,832 feet. From its top, visitors have the luxury of viewing the whole range of scenery. You can also relax in the shades brought by forest of oaks, pines, and juniper trees, while enjoying the fantastic views of the mountains and surrounding desert. Imagine the mountain area of the part alone can provide almost 20 miles trails for hiking activity.

If you are up for camping, there are many options from the three developed campgrounds with individual campsites, picnic tables, water, grills and restrooms. You can opt also for some primitive camping sites which can be found along the dirt roads of the park that provides more than 70 spaces. These sites many not offer similar amenities as the developed campsites, but it has spectacular views that you can enjoy. If you are a backpacker, the Chisos Mountains give you the freedom to choose your own campsites.
